They say viewing figures suggest that people are turning off Downton Abbey cos of all the adverts. Apparentley they even have an add break just five mins before the end.

they're heading for the american way of doing things. when 5* repeat neighbours they fit 2 ad breaks into a 25min programme.

I can imagine, that would get on my nerves.

Re: Advertising Chat
There's a fair few now sticking an advert on at 5 to the hour.
How do you feel about product placement? I'm actually ok with it as long as it's just sat there and not zoomed in at like a really bad Aussie programme.
I'm on google for my web mail and searches. I often find adverts pop up advertising what I have emailed about or searched for. I get really angry at that.

Re: Advertising Chat
I have to say I begrudgingly admire the sophistication of technology that does that.
Product placement I flip flop on. I think yes to it if there are fewer ads in between shows but if there's product placement and more ads then it's like advertising all the time. We watch the US version of The Office and Chuck where the shows are basically sponsored by certain companies and they're name dropped all the time. Blurring out of a logo or brand actually annoys me more - I know it's a can of coke or a Nike baseball cap and the blurring out just draws my attention to it more.
I think if we got to a stage where watching tv was like watching it in the US then I'd pack it in altogether.

I can't stand the perfume ad with Scarlett Johansson at the minute. All perfume ads are ridiculous but this one gets right on my pip!
and while I'm at it, I saw an ad for a remake of the film "Straw Dogs". Is nothing sacred?

Re: Advertising Chat
so much pressure with all the Christmas ads.
Buy a wi and games only £35 each have all the family round. Who does that?

Re: Advertising Chat
We were out and about this weekend and it felt like we were being bombarded with Christmas advertising! We had the radio on in the car and everything seemed to have a Christmas twist. It was really sunny this weekend, I walked around Keswick without a coat or jumper on all day, it just felt wrong to think it was November! I know everyone has to make money but it just seemed really early! And on that topic, I cannot stand those "here come the girls" Boots adverts.

Re: Advertising Chat
I'm sure I say it's getting earlier every year each time but it probably isn't. I'm probably just more grumpy about it

I know, right?! I was amazed when I found out!! there is major power in advertising... for instance my friend Joseph still refers to Dime Bars (Daim) as Armadillos.
