Re: 2011-2012 winter
I've caved today and put the heating on. Mind you it's still not on properly just giving the house a wee blast to shut up a certain little boy LOL we could manage for longer but not so sure it's fair on the kids.
Re: 2011-2012 winter
We had the heating on all day yesterday, my parents were here and they like it a bit warmer, plus they sorted my garden out for me so it was only fair the house was warm and there was plenty of tea on offer! Father was particularly happy as he got to rearrange a new garden and there was plenty of wood for him to take home to season.
In a slightly rash move we took the carpet up in the main bedroom on Saturday, it's going to look great but it's freezing in there at the minute so I am rug hunting...

Re: 2011-2012 winter
We had our heating on yesterday and over the weekend too, both of the kiddies have been ill and were moaning they were cold which called for hot water bottles, fleece blankets, heating on and cuddles on the sofa! They are both back to school today and the house is chilly after getting used to having the heating on these past few days. Haven't put it on today though doesn't seem worth it just for me being here, will do when the temperature drops more though. I hate the cold!

There's always plenty of food in the house and UHt/powdered milk, but when I saw a 5l bottle of water in Aldi the other week I thought it would be a good idea to put one in the cellar. Frozen pipes haven't been a problem here before but you never know. Also if the water goes off unexpectedly it would be a good thing to have in.

Re: 2011-2012 winter
Bought myself some thermal socks from Aldi today and got snow boots for the kids from Costco at the weekend. It had bloody well better snow this winter now or I shall be seriously miffed
Also fitted some hedgehog gutter brush into the gutters, have a major problem with oak tree leaves blocking the gutters so this "should" help.
Also bought my screen wash from Aldi £2.49 and have a 5kg bag of value basmati rice, chick peas, red lentils and 5 bags of pasta in my under the stair cupboard. Not all of this is for winter mind just seizing the opportunity to make bulk purchases from Tesco as I don't normally shop there. I could do with sorting this cupboard out really, it has an unused cat litter tray and am mahoosive bag of wooden cat litter pellets rammed in there <dreams wistfully of a walk in pantry>

The pantry was the thing that made me excited about our house. It was meant to be my space where I could have things exactly as I want them but of course this is real life, not Martha Stewart Living so there's loads of stuff in there I'd rather have somewhere else but alas, it cannot!

I must dream of a small space lined with shelving for food stuff, mind you what the hell would I put in the kitchen cupboards if I didn't have my current stuff. More Tupperware I suspect
Re: 2011-2012 winter
It means you can have your dishes and stuff really nicely displayed if all the food is in the pantry - who cares if no-one else can see it

Re: 2011-2012 winter
It was foggy here yesterday, we drove up the coast through Blackpool and the tower wasn't visible at all which was very spooky! It's beautiful here today, a little chilly (about 6 degrees I think) but not cold at all, the sky is bright blue and virtually cloudless. So it'll be cold later but for now it's lovely.
The thermal curtain linings are proving to be well worth the money so I'm glad we went for them... not much else to report at the minute I don't think.

foggy to start with, cleared a bit, then a bit of thin sunlight, heavy shower, fog and cold. Yukky day.

Ok own up. Who's stolen the cold weather???
We've had a bit of fog, some frost would be a bloody good idea though!

Re: 2011-2012 winter
The weather has been sooooo nice here, other than a bit of fog (I love fog). We went to the pub last night and when we were on the way back it was still 8 degrees which is pretty good.
We went to the outlet place at the weekend and I bought some ski socks They are lovely and cosy, plus they have little Nordic style stars on them and are gorgeous. We also bought new laces for winter boots and a keyring torch - our outdoor light is broken and it's really dark trying to find the keyhole in the dark! And everything was buy one get one free, so bargainous as well as sensible!
Swapped a couple of drawers over yesterday so the drawer with scarves, gloves etc is at the top and the one with summer stuff is at the bottom, just a small thing but I know we can just grab and go! Not sure there's much other winter prep for us to do now. I would like to get some more bird food but I think that's all.

Re: 2011-2012 winter
That aspect of it doesn't bother me. I wear layers year round so I pretty much wear the same clothes all the time. I do like a nice pair of socks though, whether I need them or not!

I can't believe the weather has turned so quickly. It's really windy and there's a really sharp icy rain falling. It rained all night too. I've put the flannelette sheets back on the bed and the heating is firmly on!

It's windy here too, although nowhere near as bad as it was at the weekend, I thought the roof was going to come flying off! Still around 6-7 degrees though so not bad at all.

Re: 2011-2012 winter
It's now spitting or rain as I've just walked to post a couple of parcels.
I do hope it stops in time for the village outside carol singing and turning on of the christmas lights as I'm singing.
