for the crafty amongst us
Anyone like nothing better than to immerse themselves in a bit of craft?
I love to crochet (I am just 31 too ) I'm self taught via you tube and actually quite good at it now, If I dare to big myself up a little bit
Does anyone else like crafting while you're at home?

Re: for the crafty amongst us
Hi
Nothing wrong with bigging yourself up :-) Well done for teaching yourself crochet :-)
I crochet, have done since I was 9. My main love in knitting though. Learnt to knit when I was 19, and expecting my eldest, and apart from a couple of years of machine knitting, knitting is my main favourite craft. I enjoy cross stich and card making. have some of those knitting looms and aim to learn that. I've done rug making, basket weaving, and want to have a go at jewlery some time :-)

I wish I could knit I have tried but can never grasp it. The world is your oyster if you can knit.
My grandma used to knot me allsorts. The grey woolly skirts for school , tied at the waist with knicker elastic and matching cardigan were erm, imprinted in my mind! I remember it fondly though, some sort of cable/square stitch, complicated so made with love

Re: for the crafty amongst us
I love knitting. I take it with me when I go out, just incase I get an urge lol. What I love most of all is sitting in a cafe and knitting, or crocheting. Doing that also gets people's attention, and lot's usally start up a conversation, which I love :-)
At the moment my mind is doing overtime with ideas I want to do, re presents. Currently I'm knitting a mug cosy, which I'm going to pair up with a mug, a box of Earl Grey tea-bags, and a packet of biscuits for a present for a friend :-) My mind is stretching to egg cosies and egg cups, with maybe a toast rack and perhaps a nice jar of marmalade or something?? Mugs, with cosies, hot choc etc, etc. Water bottles with cosies, maybe a pair of socks, preferably knitted and a novel ???? My mind is never still :-) I keep meaning to do some charity stuff, I've had big ideas about that as well lol, but my time doesn't keep up with my mind lol.

Re: for the crafty amongst us
I've just taken up Knitting - managing to do small home projects, Love your Xmas ideas Annie - do you mind if I borrow a couple
I'd love to be able to knit - I'm teaching myself from Youtube and have conquered how to do the first part, a chain, now to master the next bit lol
I love the whole crafting thing but I'm pretty clueless about it all, so I admire from afar and if the pennies allow then I buy something

Re: for the crafty amongst us
I do a few things, at the minute I'm working on a big wallhanging for the main bedroom. I was going to quilt it (stuffed quilting) but I don't know if I will now. I've been working on it since November so it's taking a while but I'm hoping to have a big push and get it finished by the end of this year.
I can knit but haven't made anything for what seems like a hundred years. There is a knit and natter at the wool shop in the town though so I'm tempted to see what's what there. I also enjoy printing, painting, applique, painting furniture and stuff like that.

Re: for the crafty amongst us
Wow Anne those gifts sound great
Well I can knit but havent for ages, will have to start again
used to do cross stitch
used to make soaps and stuff
and my OH just bought me a sewing machine that I now want to learn to use to make things, this might sound a bit strange since I cant even sew on a button but it annoys me if I cant do things I think of as life skills so I am determined to work this out and hopefully make some pretty things as well as taking up curtains and stuff

Re: for the crafty amongst us
There is a knit and natter type group in our town but I've never been, even though I would love to go! It's in an area that is very cliquey at the best of times. I just don't have the confidence to try.
I'll have to natter your ears off here instead
I'm the same but with knitting lollyfin. It's driving me mad that I can't do it! I remember being like a bear with a sore head when trying to fathom out how to crochet. I don't like it when I can't do something I really want to do.

Re: for the crafty amongst us
I keep thinking I'd like to get a crafty club on the go. There is a knitting group here on a Friday afternoon, but I can't always get to it.

Re: for the crafty amongst us
We could be our own craft group
sit down at a certain time and work on things together while having a cuppa and a chat
and that way noone actually has to hear my bad language when things go wrong!

We should! Except I couldn't crochet for typing. Hey, there's a gap in the market - speaking forums!

Re: for the crafty amongst us
I'm quite good at cardmaking - my MIL doesn't like them much because they're 'too plain' but I think they're gorgeous and stylishly minimalist... I'll maybe take some photos and put them on here and you can tell me honestly?

Aw welcome knitmylife
I'm becoming a bit of an addict to here, so friendly and full of people who are like minded and supportive. I can only imagine it going from strength to strength.
I have been crocheting for about a year and have never tried a dishcloth. It's now on my list of things I want to do

Re: for the crafty amongst us
Shall have to try crocheting some dishcloths as well.
I've done some knitted ones and even managed to sell a few on Ebid. The people who bought them were very pleased so it might be an outlet for others to make a bit of extra cash.
I've sold quite a few bits on Ebid, rather than Ebay, as there are no charges except for PayPal if you use that, and every penny counts
I've bought a lot from Ebay though, and my hubby has bought motorbikes/spares from there (thats his hobby....building old trials bikes).

did you just use normal bog standard wool?
I agree with spending far too much time on here and a really clean tidy house with washing piles right down and no ironing left to do...... that is not mormal for me, there's always something I put off
So yay homemakers
