Anyone else use Pinterest?
Hi, someone on facebook sent me a link to join Pinterest just wondered if anyone else was on it and what is really the point of it. I copied (called repinning on there) some nice photographs of things I like into different categories such as things I like to eat, crafts I like etc but can't really see the point in it all tbh and wondered if I am missing something? I am also a bit wary because of copyright and can't see where I should be looking when I copy these photographs whether they are copyrighted and therefore shouldn't be copied. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

It's an online pinboard, if you see something you like pin it to one of your boards and look at it. That's what it is, some people like it and find it useful, some don't. Not everything is for everyone.

It's in violation of copywrite and every time you pin someone else's photo on their you are violating their copywrite.
Also every time you pin your own or someone else's work on there pinterest can sell that image on without the real owner's consent. Yet another unlawful act of copywrite theif
You should read the article very carefully.

I'm sure you're not as I had to look into it more clearfully before I understound what it really was.
Even by just looking at their TOC's (Terms of Conditions) It state's you are not to post your own images and not to promote yourselves Which means they want you to post other people's images.
The only reason they do this is so they are one stepped removed ie when the legal owner of the image want's to complain or even sue they can say oh we didn't do it the user did it go after them.
It also means they can gain a great wealth of 'other people's' images for their database which they can then sell on against the image's owner's say so or paying for the right to use said images.

oh sorry Alec I didn't mean you personnally. I've just re read what I posted and seen how it could have seemed that way.
I ment you in the term of any one who tries to use pinterest it was a general 'you'

Ooh goodness thanks for your replies and glad I asked about copyright. Sounds like a right can of worms, think I will stick with facebook and MSE and homemakers forum then, tomorrow will go and delete everything.

Yes I was referred to it in the first place through a friend on facebook, quite a few of my friends use it, bit of a shocking read when you look into it though.

It's an American company and now they have been on the national news due to their dreadful misuse of other people's copywrite.
When any one use's the site wether they put up their own photo's or pin pic's they've found elsewhere on the internet the company take the rights to use those images for their own interest's ie earn money off yours and other people'ss picture without paying you or the person who owns them any kind of royally.
This means they will be making money breaking other peoples copywrite and giving them nothing in return. ie they are nothig but a bunch of thieves/crooks.
Also if you pin up someone else's image without thier prior permission you also will be braking that person copywrite and if that person catches you and goes after pinterest, pinterest will be able to pass any costs back you as you where the one who pinned the image.
It's a complete minefield.
Even if someone asks to have a image removed it's fat too late the company already have the image and can use it for their monentory gain and not pay the owner the image a penny. As when you join up you give Pinterest the right to use any image you pin for pertipurtiery ie forever.
Lots of people don't read Pinteret's terms of conditions so don't realise so what it is they are signing up to.
It now seems some people have realised and now many people realize they could be braking the law and are therefore removing their accounts

Well been and removed my account, felt quite sick about it all really, shame as there were some lovely things to look at but didn't feel comfortable once it had been explained so thanks for that
