Re: Anyone miss Woolworths?
I always think it's weird when I see a shop that obviously used to be a Woolies, seems like ages since they went. We didn't have one here (afaik) so it hasn't left a big hole in the high street. I think Wilkinsons has kind of become the new Woolies. A BHS opened this year where my mum lives and that's usually pretty busy - although I always think maybe they're on the brink of disappearing.
I've never been into a Primark. We don't have one here but there is one a few miles away. not tempted by it tbh.

I think the location of the Woolworths in the next town must be cursed. It became a TJ Hughes! I think it's a Poundland now, which isn't great but it's better than another closed shop and it's ok for a few bits and bobs.

I miss the pick and mix
EDIT: our local woolies became an Ethel Austin (which I think has closed down as well)
Our big Woolies became a cheap store called Family Bargains (A bit like Pound stretchers)

I went into ours a few weeks ago, and I didn't see any. But I was on a mission to find something else, so may well have missed it!
We had a retro sweet shop open in the city centre, but they are sooo expensive. They sell a lot of imported sweets from america: A box of Lucky Charms cereal for £9.50 anyone http://www.fizzylipsretrosweets.co.uk/products/Chocolate-Lucky-Charms-%28cereal%29.html
I am pretty lucky as a small traditional sweet shop opened up a year ago, about a 15 walk from my house.

Yeah, I remember that! I wonder if they are still going? Apparently they are! Although they had to change the name to Wellchester after the group who own the "Woolworths" brand complained about the name!

Re: Anyone miss Woolworths?
MIL used to work at Woolies in the early 70's when they were still massive and their stores sold everything. She worked in the ladies and childrens wear section but she said there was a meats section at the back of the store, furniture upstairs and lots of other stuff. Very much like everything under one roof.

I miss Wooliies - you could always get stuff in there that you couldn't get anywhere else - I'm always saying "I could of got that at Woolies" - become a bit of a joke in our house as I say it all the time. Our Woollies is a TKMax - not the same!!!
ETA We used to have a C&A too - miss that aswell - cheap kids clothes

Ma use to take me to C&A for clothes.... remember MAN AT C&A?? They still have C&A on the continent. I saw a C&A store in zagreb earlier this year and that brought back a few laughs and memories.
I kinda like taki maxx but the staff are all so grumpy.

Re: Anyone miss Woolworths?
Our Woolies became a Yorkshire Trading Co. so actually has quite a bit of the same stuff, although unfortunately not a nice range of kids clothes like ladybird was, miss that as now we've only got a Next in town that sells kid's clothes and they're lovely but a bit more expensive than I like for everyday.
