Shops opening on Boxing Day
It seems more and more will open on Boxing Day. What do you think? Will you shop? I think they ought to close for 2 days and give people a rest. Imo there is plenty of time to shop.

Re: Shops opening on Boxing Day
I will not be shopping!
We have a rule that we won't do any non-grocery shopping between the day before Christmas Eve and my birthday two weeks after Christmas. I always used to work over Christmas at the last hotel I worked at and I was (even in my pre-frugal days) amazed at the amount of people who would queue up at daft o'clock outside Next for the sale. 1. It's only a sale 2. It's only at Next, they're hardly giving diamonds away.
Anyway, Boxing Day is for eating leftovers and going to watch football or rugby, there's no time for anything else.

Me neither. I can't see how anyone in the world should need to shop on Boxing day.. given the queues on Christmas Eve. Each to their own but no, not for us.
DH normally fishes on a Boxing day. We treat it as an indulgent Sunday. We don't shop Sundays either. Not religious at all mind you, it's just we don't.

We have a family tradition of doing something outdoorsy on Boxing day to blow the cobwebs away and work off some off the calories. The famous one is when we lived in Lincolnshire for a while when I was a kid and as there is not exactly a lot of walking territory there we ended up on Skegness Beach digging holes!

Re: Shops opening on Boxing Day
My children go to their Dads on Boxing Day so its just me and DH, but this year he may have to work so if he does I may pop along to have a little looky, I normally go about 5 days after Xmas Day and see if there is anything worth buying for Birthday and following Xmas pressies. I usually like to spend my money in Boots in Jan when they mark down lots of things by a lot of money [still have plenty of Ted Baker sets from 2 years ago]

Re: Shops opening on Boxing Day
i think its plain wrong. who can possibly want to go shopping on boxing day. there is an insane frenzy of shopping up to christmas eve. cant people just lay off for a few days.
shops should remain closed for at least christmas day and boxing day and then the sales should start.
the poor people who work in retail have no break at all. its relentless.
i did a christmas in BHS one year and on christmas eve before we were allowed home we had to get the sale ready. then boxing day straight back into it. never ever again. its truly awful.
i do enjoy the sales but i will go to one or two favourite stores probably on 28th or 29th december and not before x

Re: Shops opening on Boxing Day
we never go shopping on boxing day, we visit in laws for dinner. Why do people go shopping on boxing day anyway? (stupid question? ? is it for things they have forgotton to buy or run out of, or bargain hunting? Because the shops we tend to go in namely Boots, are 50% off straight after Christmas and its sooo busy then anyway, if you leave it a week or two the sales get better 75% off and are not so busy!

Boxing day is jim's brother's birthday, so we don't do anything other than concentrate on David.
I did do some online sale shopping lol.
