Do any of us do any kind of charity work?
Two of my friends are off to Kosva where they will be building Chicken Coups (never though either would have done this kind of thing) The Chicken Coups come in some kind of kit form that my two friends will have to assemble properly involving hammer's, needles and screwdrivers something neither of them are used to using.
They will then put 2 laying hens into each coup and give them out to poor people in Kosva so they can have free eggs to eat or sell in the local market.
They are raising the monies to buy the hens and the Chicken Coup Kits
I was so impressed by their willingness to do something good that is completely outside their 'Comfort Zones' I have decided that although I'm not able to join them I can at least help them with the fund raising so I'm going to run a quiz and nibble's night in a few weeks time to help raise some monies.

What a lovely thing to do.
I would love to do more charity stuff, my aunt was involved with many local causes and was always organizing something. I'm afraid my charity contributions extend to donating to and buying books/DVDs from Charity shops

ooooo my mother used to do that she only gave up last year at the age of 67 due to ill health.
Although now she's a bit better she's taken to sorting the library books for 3 house bound ladies in her street once a fortnight when the mobile library parks right outside her front door

I don't do any now but I did for years before we moved here. I did volunteer once at a charity shop here but it was too much like working in a factory, there was no fun, no chatting, structured breaks and no chocolate biscuits. If I want to do a job like that I'd get one where I earned some cash!

Like you alec, I use to work in a charity shop but packed it in when I saw how much money was being wasted on new paperwork, forms, etc. etc and then someone with a new idea would bring out more/different paperwork and chuck away the old stuff. If it aint broken, leave it alone I say.
also, one of the volunters was stealing money from the till and the manageress didnt get any support/advice and then one day she caught the woman in the act and told her go there and then but had no one (but me) to talk to about how bad she was feeling. Though the lack of support wasn't quite right. Another nail in the coffin so to speak....

Oh dear some charity shop really need to re think about how they treat their lovely volunteers.
I used to before I moved down south be the in charge volunteer for the Church of England Children Society Shop it was wonderful. Lovely people and a great place to be.
Then I moved now south and was the manager of for another local charity in their shop how horride that was not the lovely volunteers but the people at the Head Office were just nasty, no wonder I worked out as did half my lovely ladies one a which was a very wonderful and truely gentle Nun from a local order.
Oh yes I promised to let everyone know how much was raised so far it's just over £460.
