Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
Just wondered what you thought about it or whether any of you belong to one? My grannie used to belong to one years ago. I think they try and appeal to the younger woman as well now dont they? I dont belong to one. I have had a look at their website though and spoke to a lady who belongs to one and she said they do all sorts of campaigns which sounds interesting? It looks quite costly to me as well. Sounds a good idea though.

Re: Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
I know a few people who have been a part of it over the years. I think it's a good thing but it's not for me - I don't care enough about the flavour of jam for an authentic victoria sponge and all that stuff. It's not me!

I looked into it, but there's not one local to me. I love the idea, but I'd need it to be much cheaper to be honest.

Re: Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
I use to live in a village in Cambs about 18 miles from anywhere and we had a WI which I joined and thoroughly enjoyed the debates and exchanges which went on, and then I moved back to Manchester and have sinced moved to suffolk now. there has been a new WI started in my village and I looked into joining and like you guys, it was the cost that put me off but I think I will have another look as they are looking for committee members and I fancy myself in tweeds, knitted tights, pearls and pickenese glasses!

Re: Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
mesh ive lived all my life in suffolk but am just across the border now in norfolk.
i too have looked into it and thought it expensive.
also the average age in my village is about 95 and i much as i enjoy a mixed age group i would like to join a group where there are people my age too.
i did go to a local knitting group a couple of times but again average 95. not for me on those terms xx

Re: Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
I know they are trying to attract a wider age range but I think I'd just feel like the baby! We don't have one in our village but there is one in the next village over or if I went 5 miles in the other direction to the village where I used to work I could join the famous (or infamous) one .

Re: Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
forgot to say that we did use to sing Jerusalem!!............
I dont recall much in the way of Jam making, I think it was in the background if you wanted to get 'into' that kind of thing man, which I dont mind but I dont want it rammed down my throat.
I still feel its a bit off asking for dosh just to debate, its not as though the WI has any clout.

yesterday we had a surge of guests viewing the forum. I wondered if the Wi knew we were talking about them.

Re: Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
so long as sorting the country doesn't mean I have to weigh my eggs or insist on raspberry jam instead of strawberry in my victoria sponge, I'm Vereh Heppeh. (that's my queen voice.......)

Re: Your thoughts on the Womens Institute
I know our local WI is very engaged in politicial lobbing afterall they are a lobby group.
Our's are always up to someting interesting I believe a group of the older ladies 70's are off to build chicken coups in Bosnia later this summer
Has picture in head of frail elderly ladies trying to use hammers to bang in nails
