How do you sleep? Empty How do you sleep?

Post  bildanto Tue Feb 21, 2012 9:48 am

Me - this past month rubbish, keep waking up around 2am, give up trying to get back to sleep around 2.30 so get up until about 4am then have to get up at 7.30am for school so feeling pretty tired at the moment. Wondering if it is my age (46 next week) as nothing worrying me/playing on my mind more than normal. I usually go to bed 10.45pm. Before this month usually slept through to 7.30am with little problem so hope this is a short term blip.

Badly, always have since I was in my teens. I can sleep once I'm asleep but I struggle to get to sleep. I usually read a while or I can be tossing and turning for hours. Doing even worse at the moment as DS is teething and waking a couple of times, he likes to be brought into our bed and have a bottle, warm snuggly and really sweet but then he stretches out his little arm and tickles my neck!

Have tried various things in the past but just leave me groggy. No good now as I've got 2 littlies and DD occasionally has pain episodes at night so need to be able to snap awake if necessary.

Thanks for the thought though. Smile

Think it might be a age thing Laughing I'm also a lady of a certain age (cough 45) when I hit 45 the week before my lady cycles is just nights of tossing and turning (no rude comments please)
Just hope it doesn't expand to the full month until menopause Shocked

Yes I am wondering if it is age related with me. I have also found I am burning hot in bed during my period now. Luckily I changed to an extremely lightweight feather and down duvet a while back now and have feather pillows which have helped enormously as they seem to wick away the heat better. I seemed to have a better night's sleep last night and boy doesn't it put a spring in your step with a better night's sleep.

I find reading before bed no help as it awakens my mind more.

Milk drink with cocoa before bed can help me but I have run out of cocoa at the moment and keep forgetting to get any in.

How lovely to have little ones to snuggle up with in bed, miss those days as mine are now 21 and 10 now both boys although my 10 year old jumps into my bed on a Saturday morning but its more of a I'm wide awake why aren't you kind of snuggle now.

Yup, definitely an age thing! Hence why I am on here posting at midnight. Theres no point me going to bed early as I will be laid awake for hours. When I do get to sleep I end up waking up a few times sweating and desperate for the loo Sad

Also the week before my lady cycle I have the most odd dreams Shocked I'm sure its all related, I used to be a bit busier for a couple of days leading up but now it seems to be a week without turning off at night.

Funny you were saying about odd dreams, I have been dreaming more lately and not linking it to anything but it might be age related. Don't you think at 46 I am a bit young for the menopause though I was thinking over 50 as my periods are regular, sorry gone off the thread topic a bit there.

Definitely an age thing, I'm 42. Before I had children I could sleep till lunchtime if I let myself, did the odd time after a few drinks. Shocked

Now though either I struggle to get to sleep in the first place or I wake up in the night and cant get back to sleep. DH suffers too although I'm not sure if thats a knock on effect from me tossing and turning. I sometimes get up and go downstairs on the laptop for an hour. After that I usually manage to get to sleep but its a horrible feeling. MIL has struggled with this too ever since Ive known her.

Not been down the doctors for a test, if it continues may have to. I regularly get up after lying awake for ages and go and play my facebook game on the computer for an hour to try not to disturb hubby who has work the next day, trouble is I drop off again really deeply just before I have to get up again to get youngest ready for school. Last night I woke at 4am and struggled to go back off but did eventually without having to get up which I prefer doing if I have to wake up at all.

Update on my poor sleeping, well this week seems to have got a lot better. The only difference I can say might be helping is I am having a cocoa milk drink before bed, proper cocoa not drinking chocolate and find I am sleeping through at the moment so a real difference for me. I am enjoying the extra sleep while it lasts.

I've a frozen shoulder at the moment and and it can be pretty sore at night so I often don't sleep through.

When I wake up too hot I stick my legs out of the duvet (good thing it's dark Laughing ) and as they cool down the rest of me does too - cooler blood circulating, I think - a bit like running cold water on your wrists. It works for me. How do you sleep? 300268043

Poor you. I had one myself a couple of years back. Soooo painful Sad Have you had the injection yet? that helped me a lot.
I suffer terribly from insomnia and have for years. It comes and goes in cycles so I have sleeping tablets which I use to break the cycle when it gets really bad.

'The injection' sounds scary! Shocked Is it a cortisone one? I've got a muscle relaxing cream that helps a bit.

Have you tried lavender oil sprinkled on your mattress beside your pillow - I find that helps me relax and sleep (when my shoulder isn't playing up), a drop of Ylang Ylang helps too. It's horrible when you can't sleep. Sad

Actually the injection wasn't too bad. I worked mysel up into such a state about it, but it really didn't hurt much at all and was over really quickly. The pain got worse for a couple of days then disappeared completely so it was such a relief. Yes, it was a cortisone one I think.
Oh I've tried everything to try to relax so I can sleep. Nothing works Rolling Eyes Even had hypnotherapy at one point ! The sleeping tablets I use are fab though they knock me straight out. I only use them if I have to though. Its been pretty good lately. Think I've only had one bad night in the last couple of months Very Happy

I'm glad you're sleeping better - it makes it easier to cope with life's ups and downs. Smile

I'm having some physio on my shoulder at the moment which is helping - might enquire about the injection...

How strange. I was refered for physio at first but was told there was nothing they could do with a frozen shoulder. Which side is it? Mine was the right which was awlward as I'm right handed.
I was also told that once you've had one frozen shoulder, that the other is quite likely to go too, but I'm hoping it doesn't..

A busy few weeks ..... trying to catch up Smile

My left shoulder is frozen and it's true - the right is trying to join in! I keep rotating the right one to, hopefully, prevent it from seizing up. The left isn't getting any worse now and is less painful than it was. Still can't do up my bra at the back Mad I've been having some massage on my arm and shoulder and it's helping too.

Hope things are OK with you. Very Happy
