Re: Did anyone see Rip Off Britain tonight
A man paid fourteen thousand pounds to have a drain unblocked. The programme got involved and he got some money back.
A woman sent off for something on the net and then kept getting charged £96 every month and the bank said they couldnt stop the payments Trading standards got involved in the end.
Talking about the prices at motorway service stations being expensive. Its the same at airports though its nothing new.
They featured football supporters coaches stopping on the service stations. I was told that supporters coaches were not allowed to stop at service stations due to possible fighting? Do you know if thats changed. Odd. If they arent allowed why feature it? Hmmmm

I know rugby league coaches are allowed to stop at services, although the games don't have segregation like at football. IIRC football coaches can stop but it's arranged and the stops are staggered so there's not a big influx of people arriving at the same time so fights can't be arranged beforehand.

I would say she unwittingly signed up to a continual payment scheme/plan. A lot of them are connected to those so called deals you can get on buying Sets of printed Buisness Cards.
Watchdog have done a few programmes about this kind of thing.

She thought it was a free sample of a pot of cream. They kept coming in the post at 96 pounds a go. She couldnt remember what she had signed up for. I couldnt understand the bank not being able to stop the payment! I thought you could cancel any payment from your bank.

oh yes that's the other one that Watch Dog has mentioned a few time's.
Basicially you sign up for a introductory free item but you are supposed to cancel it once it arrive's if you've not done that in usually 7 days then you are locked into one arriving every month which the monies dissappear from your bank.
No the bank can't cancel it as it's not a normal D/D or S/O but a continual payment agreement.

I see what a nightmare. I guess the only way to stop it then is to close down your bank account full stop, end of, finito. What a hassle though.

My mother did just that with her Natwest account when a home insurance company did that to her. She was already insured so she could have also been done for fraud.

This has given me an idea for a thread. It might be good to share if anyone of us have been ripped off.

Tonights was about the high cost of insurance for young drivers. A couple of mums were on there with their sons and they were saying they couldnt afford to drive now they had passed their test. The high cost of train fares. A woman was saying she cant afford to take the train to work. Also about people being missold ppi insurance and then getting involved with a rogue company who said they would fight their battles and then disappeared with their money. If anyone wants to talk about any of these things.

oops i forgot they also said some cash machines were charging people to take their money out. They took an area and they could hardly find any machines that gave cash out free they all charged. I have never paid to take money out of the machine. There was also something about people with basic bank accounts having to pay to take money out.

Anyone see it? A man handed 78 thousand over to a cold caller saying he could invest money in land which would be worth something. Of course he lost his money and the company went into administration.
78 thousand his life savings.
78 thousand his life savings.
