Re: Shiny New Thread for Winter 2012
Absolutely gorgeous here again today, not a cloud in the sky it's bright blue and the sun is shining. We had quite a heavy frost but I haven't even got the heating on at the minute.

Re: Shiny New Thread for Winter 2012
Yesterday I was so cold, I really couldn't get warm at all.
I think because I had been out all day the heating hadn't been on at all and the house got too cold. Luckily I am warmer today, but I will have to find my thick bed socks to wear at night from now on!

Re: Shiny New Thread for Winter 2012
I think today is the worst day we've had. It's cloudy and murky, it's not cold though. I'm glad we've escaped the snow and the worst of the weather, we're meant to be going to Huddersfield to watch rugby on Sunday so I've got my fingers crossed the weather improves before that.
We had our gas statement last week and we're still in credit which is great. Even accounting for the fact we've had the heating on more this week we should be even by the end of the winter.

Re: Shiny New Thread for Winter 2012
We had half an inch of snow here this morning, but its already starting to melt. Although we might get more later.
DH and FIL are supposed to be doing a car boot tomorrow, but looks like we will have to cancel our plans again .
Our garage is accessed from a small tarmaced lane that is a very steep slope, so in the icy weather we can't get the car out at all. If we get the -5 predicted tonight, we won't be going anywhere this weekend (Which is fine by me tbh )

The weather was lovely here yesterday.
According to the news this morning, we are at risk of drought:

I heard that on the radio today that some places are close to drought levels already, scary stuff. I'm so glad the winter had been mild, we've only had a couple of icy days and no snow at all. Other than the really strong winds we've been great - the wind is up again today I can hear the sea from the back garden, sounds wild!
I am glad we'd done all our winter prep though, the thermal curtains and other insulation has been great, some days we've not had to have the heating on at all. And of course when the water went off I was glad of the emergency bottle! We've also used a few bits and bobs from the emergency car kit, so none of it was wasted effort. Dan was won over too so he no longer thinks I'm OTT with it.
Did anyone else hear about the guy in Sweden who survived being snowed in his car?

Yes, apparently he was found by some walkers who thought they'd just found a crashed car, dug down and there he was lying in his sleeping bag inside the car. The report suggests that the snow covering the car turned it into a kind of igloo so even though it was minus 30 outside the temperature in the car wouldn't have been as cold. Amazing he survived.

Yes, that guy in Sweden survived on melted snow for 2 months. What an amazing story, I wonder what he kept in his car to survive so long?
