... at the risk of sounding horribly judgemental, is there anything that upsets or bothers you when you visit someone's home? I can't stand it when having used the bathroom, there is no soap by the sink, or anywhere visible for that matter. I also don't like dirty, overflowing bins - if I bin something, I feel the need then to wash my hands - which is awkward if the host has no soap pale

I'm not one to scrutinise but these things do bother me. Can't think of any others off the top of my head. Feel free to add your bugbears if you have any (and I am truly sorry if you don't have soap or have a dirty bin, I certainly wouldn't judge you as a person! Embarassed )

brown stains in loos. I KNOW they're limescale, but if I can keep my loo brown stain free, why can't they?!
air fresheners overused. I wont have them in my home as I think they're dangerous (for me they're on a danger level up there with Dettol... don't get me started) and I don't like being in other people's houses and breathing in those chemicals.

Ooh, Flibsey, I recently had a brown stain in my loo, but it was actually a product that caused it (honest!) Embarassed It was some new Domestos cleaner and I was mortified Embarassed Not a fan of the brown stain here either Laughing You wouldn't mind breathing the air in my house- I like a good old fashioned airing out by opening the windows daily, and I like using a very subtle oil burner in the evening if there are any cooking smells Very Happy

I think the thing that gets to me most is grubby light switches! I am just itching to get out a cloth and give them a good clean! Oh and I agree with you about the air fresheners.

Nothing bothers me about someone else's house afterall it's not my place I don't have to live in it it's theirs so has nothing whatsoever to do with me. I have no right to be bothered.

I'm with Aisles on this one. My house used to be a candidate for "How Clean Is Your House" so I am in no position to say anything about anyone else! And when I go to visit I'm going to visit them not their house so it doesn't bother me. If I went somewhere I knew was a bit much I'd probably just not have any food or use their facilities or something.

Im with mazzzy on the mucky lightwitchs. I dont want to touch them, IYSWIM! and lots of animal fur, I love puddy cats and woofas and they seem to like me but unfortunately, their fur makes me sneeze and if I rub my eyes then they go red, itch and then swell up a bit. But my real dislike is one of my neighbours doesn't wash cups between drinks and you dont know who had the cup before you so I learnt to say no to coffee....... pale

Eeuw, my mum went through a phase of doing that with cups. We all told her to stop it!

On the flip side, is there anything you love about other people's houses? Whether it's a general thing like a particular look or something more specific about houses you visit - like the soap one of your friends uses or the fireplace at your mum's house.

I loved going to see one of Dan's friends, they had two armchairs (they're not at home that much, workaholic types) so everyone would sit around their dining table which is huuuuuge - far too big for the house and we'd sit of two long pews. Great for atmosphere.

I love the apartment we stay in in Tenerife. No heating, no carpet, huge balcony with chairs, table and sun loungers with cushions overlooking the pool and not far from the sea. Underground car parking and security gates to the complex. Smile
