more money than sense gifts..? Empty more money than sense gifts..?

Post  alec eiffel Sun Nov 13, 2011 9:48 pm

I'm sticking my neck out really because I know these things are meant to be cute but there comes a point where a bottle of wine or some fancy coffee would be money better spent. Saw these this morning -

felt winged pencil £3.75 for a pencil with a felt wing shape on it... I can't see in what way that is a good gift. Please correct me if I'm wrong I am willing to learn about whimsy! Sorry, the link doesn't go straight to that picture, it's number 11 of 18.

Anyone else seen something where they just think "what the..?"

Nope you're right that wing pencil is just a load of shite.

Even if I was a millionaire and money was no object I STILL wouldn't part with hard earned cash for that Shocked

you get hampers that are well overpriced and gift sets you know if you bought those items individually they would be cheaper.

Yeah gift sets where half the box is taken up by one of those bath puffs so it looks like there's more than there is. I know they're a popular gift but we always had dozens of them donated to the charity shop I worked at when we reopened after new year. It was probably the same people buying them again to send as gifts the next year! Smile

Now I always check the charity shop for just those boxes to buy and use for myself. If the boxes are a good quailty box I can also re use them to put a birthday present into. or use as a storage box.

I don't get whimsical present myself all this cutie stuff that's of no use.

I like practicual things I can use just glad the rest of the family are the same.

I make hampers.
I've not got any pictures of the bigger ones I've done, but this is a mug hamper for a friend. it cost me the grand total of around £1.60.
1 sachet hot chocolate 25p (on offer in asda, 4 for £1 or 30p each)
1 bar chocolate 27p (I split a multipack)
mini grater 75p
biscuits: free to engineering staff at jim's work 'cos they're coming up to their date Wink
mini marshmallows 89p for a MASSIVE bag, so pennies for this portion
tiny bottle of home made blackberry vodka... pennies. negligible.
mug: 12p (thankyou MSE forum and T3$co hunters lol!)

more money than sense gifts..? IMG_6681

decoration on the wrapping is a 99p store Berry Garland which has been cut into its separate bunches and then any sharp wire bits coiled using pliers... each garland does about 15 pressies... and a bell which are 9 for 99p. the raffia was two bunches for £1 from Poundland and I've not finished the first bunch, the gift tags were around £3 for 100 and the decorations on the gift tags were from a nail art kit.. .again, poundland.
