you can either put them in your machine on its hottest wash, mine goes up to 90
or you can put them in a big pan with some washing powder and boil them. You could put in some whitening stuff as well that should make a difference. I have had to do this with my daughters chef whites and it does make a difference
forgot to say you might just want to do one first incase it shrinks

I've soaked white shirts, t shirts etc in a bit of bleach, washing powder/liquid and hot water before & it works very well. There's only so many times you can soak in bleach though or things start to get holes pale I'd use it once on a school shirt though - DS2 got pasta sauce down the front of his during the first week back at school - it came up lovely & white again.

I have been using ariel stain remover spray and powder with some success. I don't necessarily think that boiling (my machine does a 90C wash that isn't far off!) is the answer. Heat sets stains. I have a friend who swore that the best thing to get stains off her baby things with 'orange stuff' on them was hanging in the sunshine.

I would be inclined to do spray and soak with good stain removers, bleach or whatever, prewash in the machine with a stain remover, as this gives agitation as well as soak. Turn the machine off and let it soak overnight is something else I've done. Don't iron either till the stain is out as heat will set the stain in that way too.

By the time you've done all this, if the stain is still there then so be it, it's only school uniform! That's why they have it!,

By the way, extensive use of bleach can yellow white fabric.

so far in the past week I've tried oxy bleach in paste form, white vinegar, vanish and arial stain remover, and they have all been line dried a couple of times too so i think they're buggered lol. was worth asking though! it's not much of a loss, the big one the stain can be hidden, but the spaghetti hoopsstain is all over but thankfully the shirt is a little small anyway.
one has what looks like highlighter (orange) near the bum, and the other was the sauce from sainsbury's spaghetti hoops. weird cos the same sauce came straight out of one of her summer dresses!

they're cotton aertex styleshirts. annoying only because the school insist on having their emblem embroidered onto them, so making a 2 for £3 shirt into a barely 1 for £5.70 shirt.

if anyone happens to have embroidery machine software and a willingness to do something in the grey area of minor copyright fraud, let me know 'cos I have excellent photoshop ability, a scanner and an embroidery machine crying out to make knock off school uniform from cheaper shirts lol!!

i always use a bit of spray bleach on the kids white t-shirts or vests if they are stained, always works well. I agree about the sun being good at bleaching naturally, i used to get a good few baby food stains out this way.

i usually rub a bit of fairy liquid on the stain about half and hour before putting it in the normal wash. for me that is 40 wash.

i would also put a little bleach on the mark if that hadnt done it x

Every so often I will do a boil wash in my machine with whites - it has a 90 degree option. Quite a long wash, 1 hour 52 mins but I figure as well as washing the clothes/towels etc, it also keeps the machine clean.

If something really needs some extra help, especially if it is oily/greasy, I will soak it in a mix of soda crystals & cheapo bio washing powder (I normally use non-bio as we have allergy issues). After the dirty stuff has soaked I wash it as usual in non-bio. This works really well even with DS's work clothes (engineering - so oil from machines)
