How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
I hate it so does oh? We are spring summer people for sure, and hate the nights drawing in and autumn coming although we have a holiday to look forward too. 8)
oh works in a shop with a stone floor and it gets so cold he gets chillblains etc. Has to wear lots of layers its a nightmare.
Still the seasons come and go but im really sad summer is coming to an end. Love the lights nights as well even if its not sunny. love being able to go for a walk. The winter nights make the evening seem so long? Love it when you can put washing out late too in the summer.

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
I always feel sad when the summer seems to be over, especially when it shows early promise that it doesn't live up to like this year.
Sitting in the garden, being able to just walk out the door when you need to go out rather than bundling up.
However I love dry cold crisp autumns & winters. Scrunching through leaves in the woods.
Evenings with the world shut out, coming in from a walk, having a bath & getting into pj's at 5pm, sitting in front of the coal fire.
I would hate to live somewhere that doesn't have seasons.
I couldn't cope with being so cold that I got chilblains though. Can your OH not do something to the floor, layers of newspaper & then carpet or rugs on top to keep a little warmer.

OOh that is very cold, it made me feel cold reading the OP.
I don't know whether you can buy them for men, last year I bought a pair of really cheap faux suede-fur boots for myself as I couldn't use the heating until the evenings. Anyway the boots made my feet so darn hot that I couldn't wear them.
They could of course cause other problems if the feet are really sweaty & can't dry.
Would these work, Heat in a Click Instant Re-Useable Heat Pack Foot Warmer, on amazon, or can't you wear shoes with them?
It's no wonder that neither of you look forward to the end of summer.

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
Working in the cold is not fun. I used to work in a refrigerated factory :affraid:
It seems the summer is over far too early this year. I keep saying we've hardly been to the beach or the arcades or any of that other stuff and I can't believe the Blackpool Illuminations switch on is in two days! I do love the autumn though, I used to love it when I worked at my last hotel and I'd go to work in the dark at 7am and come home in the dark at 4.30 - I know that depresses some people but I love it. I think it might come from me being a winter baby so all my traditions and celebrations are in the winter so I associate it with happiness and fun more than the summer.

Summer, what summer? Although I do have to admit I prefer cooler weather. I've always said you can always put another jumper on but there is only a certain amount of clothing you can remove and remain respectable! My favourite times of year are autumn when the colours are fab and spring when everything is just starting to come to life again.

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
I generally feel somewhat sad when summer starts to fade. However, it's still summer until 23 September (autumn equinox) so will try to keep my cheery hat on until then at least. No, seriously, I don't enjoy the cold(er) weather as it affects my health. Summer has been okay this year, not brilliant, but okay nevertheless. Around here we've had some really nice weather at times and at least we've been spared a 3 week heatwave where the humidity builds up until you feel totally frazzled and are willing the weather to break so that it feels more comfortable again. I'm just hoping that the winter won't be too bad this time.

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
I don't mind the autumn coming in, I like a change and closing the curtains, snuggling in with the candles and hot choc are nice feelings but I do get down as the more 'miserable' weather continues especially if the summer hasn't been very good.
So now I'm ok about the darker, colder days and nights now but I know i'll slump into a mediocre mood in a couple of months time...... unless we have snow but then we have me panicking until DH manages to get home
Spring is my favourite time of year but the early autumn when everything changes is a second

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
Hmm, well, for me it isn't the cold and so on that is the problem. I get really debilitating Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which was diagnosed quite a few years ago now. If the condition doesn't get me, then the medication does! One year I was off work for 12 weeks and another for 8. Had a fortnight off a couple of times, but last year I only had a couple of days and that was because of the medication side effects.
I try to go into the winter with a positive attitude and not to expect too much of myself. I arrange a few things to do, but mainly stay at home, can't be doing with a lot of stress and people. This year should be easier as I shan't be going 'out' to work, so can arrange my work to suit myself largely.
No doubt I'll be back here and moaning about it before too long. Got a three day break in Spain (never been to Spain) in September, so hoping that will put me on a bit.

I have mixed feelings to be honest, i love sitting in the garden when i can, i feel sad that the days get shorter and you cant nip out to the shed, log pile etc without putting on shoes but on the other hand i love snuggling up with my hubby under a fleece blanket infront of the log burner with the curtains shut and my knitting to keep my lap warm
i guess i love all the seasons

Maybe the Wednesday afternoon it occured this year you were busy on a forum.
I almost missed it but luckily I'm a dirty smoker, so popped outside for a dirty fag just in time to catch it.
I do hope that you have better luck next year.
I'm praying as most of us probably, for an Indian Summer.

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
It was a beautiful day here yesterday so took the kids and dogs out to a country park near here and just walked round the trees relaxing and having a nice time, got up this morning and its raining and chilly again. its the wardrobe bit of it that is annoying me at the moment. i have started to pack away my summer stuff and bring out warmer things but am kind of inbetween at the mo which means stuff is every where!
i do like the autumn and winter nice crisp days and changing colours in the trees but would have liked just a bit more summer first

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
Just a bit more would have been nice, to lift the spirits.
I like wearing autumn/winter clothes. i love the feeling of getting wrapped up warm and going out with the kiddies all snug. I feel smarter in these clothes for some reason.
I'll be sad to see my toes go. I don't wear nail varnish on my fingers but always have a colour on my toes.. cheers me up
The forcast is to splosh down with rain on Weds, the very day I begin the school walk again. cold I can do... wet :affraid:

Re: How do you feel about the summer coming to an end?
I love Autumn and Winter, definately more my type of season don't get me wrong I love summer (when we have one) but I like the cool crispness, frost, snow.....OK I'll admit not so keen on the wet stuff or indeed the shed load of oak leaves I will spend most of the seasons collecting from my garden but I do love the rest of it

Me too.
I've always preferred Autumn and Winter but I love it even more now because of this house. Our living area has a full wall of floor to ceiling windows onto the back garden so it's gorgeous to watch the rain etc. The added benefit is that it's still pretty light even when there's no sun because of all the glass. I think I'd be depressed if the windows were teeny.

I know marcia thats the one bit thats a real pain
our gas/elec direct debit more than doubled last year it came down again but we have managed to build up a bit of credit that i am hoping will take us through the winter
i will still be saying shut the door, put on a jumper, switch off those lights and generally being the energy police again tho
