butter, cheese, eggs, milk, beans, tins of fruit, soup, bag of porridge oats, bread, spanish marmalade, tins of custard, rice pudding, tins of tomatoes, sweetcorn, tuna, rice, peas, garlic bread, cereals, yogurts, lots of sauces, mayonnaise, and cook in sauce and homepride type tins, fruit, onions, and always have a bowl of salad on the go.

Is that the sort of thing you meant?

Can pop and get things from the shop too.

Yep!

I'm writing my master shopping list for next month and also made a note of the things we always keep in. Will post mine up when I've finished in the pantry...

Pantry - Lentils, SR flour, plain flour, bread flour, yeast, herbs & spices, gravy granules, stock cubes/powder, custard powder, cornflour, olive oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, soy sauces, fish sauce, sugars, golden syrup, porridge, savoury rice packets, pasta in sauce packets, chutneys, peppers & olives in oil, tinned pulses, beans, toms, rice, pasta, noodles, jams, marmalades, choc spread, marmite, tinned tuna, corned beef, jellies, angel delight type things, cakes both homemade & bought, crisps, worcester sauce, sweet chilli sauce, hot chilli sauce, dried fruit, tinned fruit.

Fridge - Onions, carrots, celery, potatoes, courgettes, peppers, yoghurts, toms, eggs, cheese, any cooked meats, leftovers, butter, atrixo (for pastry), stork, vitalite/flora, mayo, tom sauce, tom puree, cream cheese, creme fraiche & usually something defrosting!

Freezer - Peas, mixed peppers, mushrooms, brocolli, cauliflower, sweetcorn, green beans, chopped onions, chicken breasts & thighs, minced beef, bacon bits, fish fingers, pizza dough, crumble mix made up ready to put on fruit, pastry made up waiting for water, ice creams, soups, stocks, garlic bread, pizzas, frozen fruit, chips, meals that have been frozen, leftovers that have been frozen, breads.

This is what I tend to keep in as I can make most meals from it and only have to buy extra meat, veggies etc. I tend to shop to replenish this stock and it seems to save money which is always good! I'll probably think of loads more as soon as I post this haha!

Talking of freezers my parents were away last week and their garage was broken into and the contents of the freezer stolen. It included a huge capon, steaks, loads of fish, 4 chickens and all of Mum's homemade soups, shepherds pies and stock. They left the frozen veg behind Mad

Lancashire sauce is a spicy vinagery saucey thing. I use it instead of lea and perrins because it's suitable for vegetarians. Most Asda stores up here sell it in the "local things for local people" section, lots of butchers sell it too or if you ever go to Bury market the black pudding folks sell it (it's really nice with their veggie black pudding so I would imagine it would be yum with the "real thing").

Thanks Alec. I'll have a look for it as Bury Market is my local one Wink I'm planning on going this week as there is a British Food fortnight going on and lots of the stalls have special offers on.

various flours, cornflour, cornmeal, baking powder, arrowroot, bicarb, cream of tartar, pasta, dried mushrooms (either bought pre dried but on offer or dried at home when there's a cheap glut), tinned toms, tinned pulses (enough for a massive pan of chilli), tinned baked beans, tinned baked beans with sausages (half size tins), tinned spaghetti hoops (half size tins), sharwoods tarka daal in sachets (omnomnom), precooked microwave rice in sachets (need some more), 1-2 jars meridian curry sauce for cant be bothered nights, tuna, garlic paste, tinned soup, porridge oats, dried noodles, different types of rice; generally wild, quick cook long grain and sushi which we use for risottos too (blast in freezer overnight then can be kept in jars indeffinately), asda dark chocolate spread, teabags (always decaf) earl grey teabags decaf), two types of sugar; white caster prefeably silver spoon as it's uk grown and processed, and billington's demarara for breakfasts! somewhere at the back of the cupboard is a jar of coffee, and i have a tub of Caro or barleycup.
dried stuffing, soup mixture (split peas, barley, lentils etc), couscous, crushed bulgur wheat, puy lentils, tomato ketchup, brown sauce, chilli jam (harrods, jalapeno jam, amazing and one jar lasts fricking years), cake decorations, glace cherries, cocoa powder, hot chocolate mix (milk free).

various chutneys but always a jar of sweet pickle, we buy jam in little portion packs because it goes off otherwise! peanut butter, marmite, tesco beefy.

UHT milk, bulk bought a month at a time. as we use lactofree it'd be a mile and a half each way, on foot if we ran out when jim's working so naturally this is easier!

finally spices and herbs which we always have in:
amchur powder (ground green mango, citrus substitute for if i run out of lemons; also adds a je ne sais quoi to curries and chinese food too!)
garam masaala (ground)
tumeric (ground)
coriandar (ground)
cumin (ground)
oregano (home grown, dried)
rosemary (home grown, dried)
bay (grown by my mum, dried)
thyme (home grown, dried)
ready made curry powder
black mustard seeds
cardamom pods
cinnamon
black, red and green pepper corns
paprika
smoked paprika
various heat scales of chilli from super mild to 5*
fenugreek seeds
coriandar seeds
cumin seeds
mustard powder
dried yeast (the kind in the tin not the sachet)

and permenantly in the freezer is a box of nuts which gets topped up now and again. plus i keep some pastry, marzipan and even icing in there too.

oh and pepsi. and squash, generally one orange, one blackcurrant. strawbery ribeina if feeling flush lol.

in the fridge I always have eggs, cheese and marge (again marge is bulk bought as it's a long walk for the one we can use).

Dan has lots of different flours too. I don't venture into that cupboard so I don't know how many for sure... I like the sound of your sideboard with the jars on. One of the things that attracted me to this house was that it had a walk in pantry.

Not at all. I'm getting all kind of ideas. In fact biscuits for cheese are going on my shopping list for "just in case" winter foods. All our cooking stuff is electric so if that goes off we'll be scuppered. Biscuits and stuff like that would be a great thing to have in. They're ok to eat but not so nice we'll eat them all in one go!

Oooh I wouldn't dare photograph my cupboards even if I were technological enough to post the picture - they are far too messy with to much crammed in! Not even sure where I could start with a store cupboard essentials list - me and OH were talking the other day and he reckons if the snow comes again we could keep the entire street going for quite a while - he's probably right! Embarassed

I have loads of flour (different types)
At least 16 kg of pasta (ordered in last two weeks while it's been cheap)
5 kg of rice (ditto)
Lentils and beans both dried and cans
chopped toms and passatta galore
dried herbs and spices from Idian supermarket so in big quantites!
Homemade jams and chutneys coming out my ears including 20 + jars of homemade seville marmalade (and we've been eating it too)
Crisps and chocolate from approved foods in industrial quantities.
5 kg of cous cous (less some we've used) same for polenta!

I could go on but you get the picture? It's quite scary and looks a little mad to the uninitiated and I will only 'fess up to the above on here (and possibly on the OS board on MSE). Certain friends have been known to express the opinion that I am slowly going round the twist out here in the sticks! Laughing
