How do you dry your washing on damp, drizzly days

I've am airer fit to bursting. It's in the dining room and plan to put one up at the top of the stairs and one in the bathroom.

I don't use a tumble dryer due to the cost factor but sometimes I wish I had one. It gets me down having washing lying around the house.

How do you dry your washing when the weather doesn't allow for line drying?

There's only two people and two furries here so it's easy most of the time for me to just avoid doing laundry if the weather is bad. We have enough towels and bedding for a couple of weeks etc. The only thing that needs to be washed each week is work clothes for for the man. If there's no chance of drying outside I hang everything on the airer and have the dehumidifier on. When the weather's bad I plan to only do a couple of loads a week so there's not tons of stuff hanging about the place. I realise it would be tougher for people with bigger families though.

have a tumbler but rarely use it. I use the clothes horse and leave it to dry if it cant go outside.

If it really cant go outside to dry then im afraid it has to go in the dryer!!

I cant stand clothes on radiators or clothes maidens or even piles of clothes anywhere as it makes the place look even more untidier than it is already!

I did have a tumble dryer but gave it to my mum as it was to expensive (handy!) for me to run so this is our first winter without it and im panicing already

I'm really glad that I've never had a tumble dryer so I have nothing to miss now I'm a tightwad

I remember that my grandma used to have washing lines hanging in the bedrooms upstairs. I would do this if I had a dehumidifier.

The annoying thing is my kitchen is quite a size and could house a few airers but there is not heat source in there (can you believe that! It catches the sun pretty much all day and is toasty but on days it's cold and not sunny it's freezing)

Just this weekend I got hubby to put about 3 rows of washing lines up in the garage.
I do have a dryer but with the cost of electricity I thought this would solve the problem of trying to find space to dry things when it is raining.

Anything that can go onto a hanger is hung up in a suitable doorway. Small items are placed on airers hung on the radiators. Towels and bedding go into the dryer.

not sure if this will help, but this is what I do.....

On my bannister (on the landing) I have two radiator airers which I put smalls on and light cotton (eg pillowcases) to dry when its wet outside. I also have two radiators airers hanging down in my airing cupboard. I also hang clothes on the airing cupboard door and lay larger items (eg sheets) over the bannister.

My nieghbour has two teenagers and she has a sheilas maid hung on her landing (suggestion from yours truely).

I generally put the wm on at night, lay the washing out in the morning and by bed time its usually dry. Now towels take a bit longer and I like them to have a 'blow'.... of course, outside is better cos of the lovely smell..

Am in a flat so no garden i just use the airer.

No tumble dryer here and with 4 of us there's plenty of washing. I have a clothes horse, a small cheapie hanging "thing" for socks and pants and anything else like hubbys shirts get put on a hanger and hung off the shower rail. We manage although I get sick of the aired in our bedroom sometimes, especially when I have the heating less due to the cost.

I have a tumble. I budget for the electric to run it and wouldn't be without it!

We got it on freecycle 3 years ago and all it needed was a new tube. then last year we had to replace a thermostat. tbh it's only cost us £30 in parts.

Lidl are selling airers for less than a tenner at the mo, they are very good and you get loads on them (I bought one last time they had them)
I have had to put the heating on again over the last couple of days not because it has been really cold but because of the washing, on sunday i lost count of the amount of times i had to run out and rescue my washing because of the rain. So I got lazy and put stuff on the airer and put that outside so it was easier to bring everything in at the same time (just picked up the airer)and put it out again when it dried up. Got everything most of the way dry doing that and it just needed a little while on the radiators.
I dont usually run in and out but the kids had tidied their rooms and I had about 6 loads of washing to do.
Any one got any tips on how to stop kids stock piling washing!!!

That's what I do. I don't want a washing line in the garden (purely for the look of the garden - I'm so vain!). So I have two big airers and just hang everything on them and set them outside. As you say it makes it loads easier when it starts raining to just bring everything in at once.

they dont get to blow around so much on airers as they do on the line though.

I don't find it to be a problem tbh, I hang shirts, tops, skirts and shorts on hangers and peg trousers from the highest bit so air gets around them in a not dissimilar way to how it would on a line. Bedding dries quickly too when it's draped and pegged over the top of the airer, air gets round it and billows it about the same. So I'm lucky that I've never had any issues with it.

Between seasons is always a problem. WHen the heating is on, everything dries really easily on pulley up rack thingy in the utility room, or if I make room on the rack in there, or there's room in the dining/living room to put a rack. Once the underfloor heating is on it's easy there! But I don't like laundry in the living area! Stuff doesn't dry quickly enough and goes smelly.

My lower temperature wash programme doesn't spin that dry, which is a nuisance, without an extra high speed spin it takes ages to dry anything other than shirts.

just rushed out it was raining and i didnt realise. I hate it when its in and out.

I have a couple of washing lines in the outbuilding, with the window and door open it works quite well.
