How did you all get started with computers and the internet?

How did you all start and when did you start having internet access at home?

My ex bought our son a computer about 1999 but it wasnt connected to the internet. I started getting into the internet down at the local library they offered free internet access. I got myself an email address and it went from there. Eventually i got online at home after realising i needed and wanted it at home and didnt want to keep going down the library.

First i was on the PC but last year acquired a laptop and mostly use that now although i prefer the larger screen on the PC.

It just happened!

I used the internet at college and university then just got it at home when I moved into my last student house.

you only got 2 hours a day at the library wouldnt be long enough now :lol!:

Wow i actually cant remember its been so long
we started off with one computer
we now have connected to the net (in the whole house not just me!)an Xbox (DS) PS3(DH) 3 laptops (mine,DD,DH) all these things were bought as xmas presents couldnt just go out and buy them :affraid:
I dont think I could cope not having the net now...how sad is that!!!
Im not very good doing anything else with my laptop just the net thats it

I was living at home with my Mum, my sister was a student so bought a Pc and paid for the internet. freeserve we used back then.

I haven't been without since really.

Daughter started getting into them and then I followed.

I first had the internet at work and then we took the plunge to getting dial up (remember that LOL) internet at home. I remember back in 2002 we were selling our old house and the Estate Agent was desperate to ring us but couldn't get through due to us tying up the phone line being online thank heavens for broadband that's all I can say.

I think I'd flatline without it at home. It's my link to adult conversation (such as this), it's a useful tool for shopping around etc and a host of information at your finger tips. Never be without now.

My dad had computers even before my bro left school in the early 80s. I was just used to them being around. Hub used them at work so just seemed into all the technology and so on. I used to write my essays on dad's pooter when I was at Uni. Everyone else typed them!

about 2002 apparantely.

always had access to compjuting equipment, my grandad was an enthusiast and so we had state of the art equipment. then mum married a computer systems analyst so again, state of the art lol!!
I remember my stepdad using one of those phone cradle modems to call into work! we were the first people on our street to have internet access.
the first time I surfed the net was 1996. I also got my first email then too.
I also got high level ICT tuition at school as I went to a technology college.
then after a levels I went to uni to study...guess what? COMPUTING... but I was terrible at it, changed course, was terrible at that too and dropped out. the best thing I got out of uni was my husband hahaha.

I'm already training the daughter in how to maintain a computer. she's 5.

I remember when my bro had a mobile phone and not many people did it was huge.

LOL I remember H's first moby and it weighed as much as half a brick!! No chance of losing that one
