Christmas calamities? Empty Christmas calamities?

Post  life_in_termoil Wed Sep 07, 2011 9:31 am

I remember the very first Christmas in my new home with a new baby. I was cooking the turkey but it didnt look right so I wrapped the whole lot in silver foil (roasting tin and all) ordered a taxi to take me to my mums, got it to wait for me then take me home. The taxi cost me £30! When I arrived at mums she just laughed at me as the reason it "didnt look right" was because it was upside down (ie breast side down) Christmas calamities? 300268043

No, not really. There was one year we promised we'd have Christmas at home then Dan decided he wanted to go to his mum's. I had a massive strop (not uncommon) and refused to go, so it was a pretty rubbish day but in terms of dropping the nut roast or setting fire to the tree nothing like that has happened yet. Although I don't rule it out.

I don't think we've had a dodgy experience at Christmas. We are pretty selfish at Christmas and always stay at home. We say if anyone wants to visit the girls to feel free to pop in on Christmas morning but that is it. Christmas Eve and Boxing day are our visiting days... my Mum always comes to us on Christmas day and stays the night, as she's on her own but that doesn't count and I don't care if the in-laws think thats unfair - what is unfair is Christmas on your own when you don't need to be.

Boxing day is a whole other nightmare for me. Should I start a thread all about the issues I have with my FIL as far as Christmas is concerned? I am on the one hand joking and on the other hand deadly serious...
