Amusing Faux Pas

Post  flibsey on Thu Sep 08, 2011 4:28 am

a friend (HB) and I were shopping today in the town centre (she gave me a lift in return for my brownie recipe!) and we were in the pound shop.

HB announced she was buying a £shop bag for life in case she (IN HER WORDS) "got caught short doing the shopping"...

listening to the old lady in the queue in front of me trying to stifle her giggles was priceless. even better was the snickering that happened when I asked HB if it'd hold everything she needed it to, being as it was cheap flimsy canvas, and pointing out it's not waterproof... I was trying not to laugh myself and tried to keep a straight face.

I know it's a term that's gone out of fashion, but I still know plenty of people who use it. and for those who've never heard it, "getting caught short" means either needing an urgent toilet trip or actually wetting (or soiling) one's self.

and finally, the look of shock on HB's face when, outside the shop, she realised what she'd said and how it could be taken by an older generation....

sorry. had to share.
